NDIS funding
NDIS continence products and funding
Continence products may be funded when the need relates to your disability. Understand what to check in your plan, what evidence can help and where to get personalised advice.
Does the NDIS fund continence products?
Being an NDIS participant does not automatically mean every continence purchase is funded. The NDIA considers whether your continence needs relate to your disability and whether the requested supports meet its funding criteria. Treatment of a health condition remains the responsibility of the health system.
Continence products are commonly considered as consumables. Check the relevant funding in your own plan, any stated conditions and how that budget is managed before ordering. A recommendation or available budget is not, by itself, approval for a particular purchase.
This guide is general information, not an individual funding decision. National Continence Solution does not approve or guarantee NDIS funding and is not a registered NDIS provider.
Which continence products may be considered?
Your needs, clinical recommendations and plan determine what is suitable. Examples include:
Absorbent products
Pads, liners, pull-up pants and absorbent briefs selected for the person's leakage, fit and ability to change them.
Bed protection
Mattress protectors and other continence-related protection where they meet a disability-related need.
Catheter supplies
Catheters and related drainage supplies when clinically appropriate. A clinician should guide selection and use.
Related consumables
Other recommended continence supplies may be considered where they meet NDIS funding criteria; not every personal-care item is covered.
Compare fit, absorbency and daily routines in our continence aids and products guide. This is guidance on choosing products, not a product store.
What evidence can support a request?
A continence nurse or allied health practitioner can help explain your needs. Ask your NDIS contact what evidence is needed for your circumstances; not every person needs the same assessment or report.
- How your disability affects toileting, bladder or bowel management and everyday activities.
- Your current products, how often you use them and the results of any trials.
- Recommended products, quantities and why they suit your needs.
- Relevant supplier quotes or estimated costs, including any delivery costs.
Our continence assessment page explains our nurse-led assessment and written recommendations. An assessment can inform care planning and funding evidence; it does not guarantee a funding outcome.

Before you order: check your plan and supplier
- Check the support. Confirm that the purchase is an NDIS support, relates to your disability and fits the conditions of your plan.
- Check the budget. Ask your plan manager or NDIS contact which budget applies and whether any limits or funding periods affect the order.
- Check management arrangements. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can generally choose registered or unregistered providers for continence products and nursing. NDIA-managed funding requires registered providers. Some support types have additional registration requirements.
- Check the practical details. Confirm product size, quantities, samples, delivery, invoices and returns with your supplier before buying in bulk.
National Continence Solution provides nurse-led advice and assessments, not a guarantee of product funding. We cannot deliver services paid from NDIA-managed funding as an unregistered provider. Read our NDIS funding overview or contact us about self-managed, plan-managed and private options.
Common questions about NDIS continence funding
Can I receive CAPS as well as NDIS continence funding?
Services Australia says you cannot receive the Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) if your NDIS funding package includes continence support. If your funding changes, check your eligibility and reporting obligations with Services Australia rather than assuming you can use both.
What if my plan does not cover the products I need?
Speak with your NDIS contact or support coordinator about your current needs and the evidence that may be required. Keep a record of product use, changes in your needs and relevant recommendations. Do not assume a purchase made before funding is confirmed will be reimbursed.
What if I am not an NDIS participant?
Private assessments and product purchases are available. CAPS may help eligible people with permanent and severe incontinence, subject to its rules. If you are considering NDIS access, use the official eligibility and application guidance below.
Can your nurses help me choose products locally?
We offer in-home nursing across our confirmed South East Queensland and Northern NSW service areas, with telehealth available Australia-wide where suitable. Ask us about availability in your area and whether an in-home or telehealth assessment is appropriate.
