Getting the most from a telehealth assessment
Telehealth makes continence care available to participants in regional and remote Australia. Here's how to prepare so the appointment runs smoothly.
Why telehealth works for continence care
Most of a continence assessment is conversation — listening to your story, understanding your goals, and reviewing your routine. Video calls are well-suited to this kind of work and they remove the cost and delay of travel.
A short prep list
The day before your appointment:
- Test your video setup — phone, tablet or laptop are all fine. We will send a link.
- Find a quiet, private space with a stable internet connection. Headphones help.
- Have your supports nearby — current products, recent prescriptions, and a list of current medications.
- Invite anyone who supports you — a family member, support worker or coordinator can join from any location.
During the call
We will:
- Confirm your consent and what we will discuss.
- Walk through your bladder, bowel and skin history.
- Review your current products, equipment and routine.
- Ask about your goals and what a "good week" looks like.
- Agree on next steps and what will appear in your report.
If we need to see the bathroom set-up, the bed area or a transfer, we will ask for a quick walk-through on the camera. You can decline at any time.
After the call
You will receive your written report within 5 to 7 business days. We will also share any supplier contacts, sample requests or referrals discussed during the call.
Book a telehealth appointment when you are ready — we run sessions across all Australian time zones.
